Poke A Dots

Dating all the way back to ancient times, The Stick and Poke Tattoo process has surprisingly been around longer than the tattoo gun. There is a stigma about Stick and Poke tattoos–that they are unsafe and unsanitary. Due to the number of deaths in prisons caused by HIV and Hepatitis from sharing needles, people have began to question if this process for tattooing is safe or hygienic. Today, the Stick and Poke tattoo has become mainstream! Now that the Stick and  Poke has become so popular, everyone feels like they can be a tattoo artist. So people should have a reliable resource that allows them to give clean, high quality tattoos. My goal with this project was to create a Stick and Poke Tattoo brand that promotes high quality, safely executed Stick and Poke tattoos. Poke a Dots will provide people with the necessary information and equipment so that they can be the best tattoo artists they can be.

This project began with brand development. It seemed wrong to marry the concepts of DIY Tattoos and a Safe/Sanitary Tattoo process. My solution was to create a hand drawn logotype where I combined a clean San Serif typeface with an Old English typeface. The logo is accompanied with a mark that includes a hand drawn Rod of Asclepius. In greek mythology, The Rod of Asclepius is a deity associated with healing and medicine. After I developed my logo, I developed a brand guidelines. Using Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Indesign and Photoshop, I extended my branding to packaging and print.
