“The ADAA is unlike any competition I’ve been a part of because you get so much out of it whether or not you win an award.“
Jason Ronzani, ADAA entrant 2014, ADAA winner 2015
"Thank you so much for featuring my work and the illustration I created with Jay Taylor as my mentor! It has been such a great experience and I highly recommend this mentorship program to all art students!"
Alison Conway, 2016, ADAA Semi-Finalist
“The most useful thing that happened during my mentorship was the experience of doing critiques and group meetings online or over the phone. Working remotely is a new experience for me and is definitely integral for freelance designers in today's industry.“
Peter Clark, former mentee and ADAA Motion Graphics Winner 2014

What is mentorship

If you submit a project to the 2017 ADAA contest and chose to be considered for mentorship, you may be selected by one of our mentors to participate in the Adobe ico-D Mentorship Program.

The mentors are accomplished creative professionals from ico-D`s and Adobe`s global network. They are passionate about helping launch the careers of the next generation of designers across the world.

If a mentor likes your work, you could be chosen for either a portfolio review or mentorship, regardless of whether your project is selected for placement in the ADAA contest. Mentors offer you guidance and even give you opportunities to collaborate on projects. They also help you with your entries for the competition!

How mentorship works

There are two forms of mentorship: The most common is the ‘portfolio review’. This opportunity provides advice and feedback from a Mentor about your body of work. This can help you when pitching an idea to a potential client or help you prepare your work for an interview with a particular agency or company. Mentors will also be able to help you fill any gaps in your work and provide you with useful advice to enable you show the best of your creative efforts.

Then there is the 5-5-5 mentorship: This consists of 5 one-on-one sessions based on 5 predetermined objectives over 5-6 months. When possible these sessions can take place in person depending on your location. Otherwise they will take place virtually, either by phone or using hangouts or Skype.

The mentors are accomplished creative professionals from ico-D`s and Adobe`s global network. They are passionate about helping launch the careers of the next generation of designers across the world.

Apply for mentorship

When submitting your application simply check the box “I would like to be considered for mentorship”. Your ADAA entry will then become visible to our panel of mentors and if they like your work they will get in touch with you once the program commences.

Nathalie Lawhead

Founder and creator of Tetrageddon Games, AlienMelon

United States

Nathalie Lawhead is a multidisciplinary game designer and the creative force behind Tetrageddon Games. Although coming from a very traditional background in classic art, she started working in the new (and less traditional) online interactive media when email spam was still unheard of, and people used their real names (as well as grammar) in chatrooms. She has been on the cutting edge ever since, creating ground breaking experiences, interactive art, and online experiments blurring the line between games and art. She is a master of anything interactive and experimental, breaking the confines of what’s technically "impossible".

Nathalie is passionate about interactive platforms (such as games), and architecting concepts that use the internet as a framework for interactive experiences because of its unexplored nature when it comes to art as well as literature. She believes there is a lot of untapped power in the internet as an overall medium for making games so unique they become an entirely different mind blowing genre. When new forms like ARGs or games-as-art surface, they remind us we are only at the beginning of inventing variations of art so radically different they set a new standard for what can be done.

Nathalie has been developing and contributing to the evolution of online media for over ten years.
