Interactive Media:

Browser-Based Design
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include designs meant to be viewed through a browser on a computer or other device (excluding mobile phones). Deployment of the entry requires participant interaction such as experience design, websites developed using cascading style sheets (CSS), user interface design, and eLearning projects, and the entry must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.

Submit your project in the following way:

  • URL reference; the URL must remain constant and unchanged until December 1, 2012.
Later, if you are selected for semifinalist submission, you’ll need to:

  • Prepare relevant releases for any creative assets, such as music or a company logo, that you did not author yourself. Finalists will be required to submit all relevant releases for creative assets not developed by the entrant (music, for example).
  • Send original files showing your use of Adobe software during the creation of your final project
Non-Browser Based Design
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include designs on computer or device deployment requiring participant interaction such as experience design, kiosks, user interface design, DVDs, and eLearning projects meant to be resident on the computer system and not delivered via a browser. Entries must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.

Submit your project in one of the following ways:

  • URL reference; the URL must remain constant and unchanged until December 1, 2012.
  • FLV format
  • PDF
Later, if you are selected for semifinalist submission, you’ll need to:

Application Development
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include applications that can run inside the browser or on the desktop (using Adobe AIR™ software). Examples of these applications are available at www.flex.org/showcase. These applications have both a design and development component and are often created by teams that include both designer individuals and application developers

The entries for this category are components and applications that enhance user experience (through innovative layouts, data visualization, and engaging look and feel), and were created using any of the following tools: Adobe Flash (r) Builder (r) 4, Flash Builder 4.5, Adobe Flash Catalyst, Adobe AIR. Entries may incorporate the use of Ajax. The application should be complete enough to illustrate the concept.

Submit your project in one of the following ways:

  • PDF file with linked interactive elements
  • URL reference; the URL must remain constant and unchanged until December 1, 2012.
  • Adobe AIR file
Later, if you are selected for semifinalist submission, you’ll need to:

Mobile Design
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include media designed for mobile devices and experiences and intended for exclusive use on handheld mobile devices or mobile experiences, such as animated ads and widgets (icons, avatars, desktops). Entries must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.

Submit your project in one of the following ways:

  • Emulation or demo of the design experience in a format compatible with Adobe® Flash® Player
  • URL reference; the URL must remain constant and unchanged until December 1, 2012.
Later, if you are selected for semifinalist submission, you’ll need to:

  • Prepare relevant releases for any creative assets, such as music or a company logo, that you did not author yourself. Finalists will be required to submit all relevant releases for creative assets not developed by the entrant (music, for example).
  • Send your project in high-resolution digital files on a CD or DVD to Adobe competition headquarters
  • Send original files showing your use of Adobe software in the creation of your final project
Game Design
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include media designed for games, experiences intended for users to engage with individual game play or games intended for groups or teams. Games can be described as videogame consoles, electronic computer games, mobile games (including game-based phone apps), smaller games that have tactile focus, controllers, game design concepts or systems, and even physical board games. "Finished" or working applications of your game are not required for entry. For large games with ambitious design scopes, you may enter a "concept," as long as the design, images, demo and/or game description are presented clearly. If your game design is functioning, keep in mind cross-platform usability and intuitiveness, regardless of input on a keyboard, or touch screen, for example. If your game is functioning, and your user doesn’t already have Adobe Flash Player 11 installed, then your game should present the option to install Adobe Flash Player 11, then take the user to the install/update page. Entries must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.

Submit your project in one of the following ways:

  • Emulation or demo of the design experience in a format compatible with Adobe® Flash® Player, jpegs, screen shots of your game or game concept, or a URL reference; The URL must remain constant and unchanged until December 1, 2012. Describe how your game is played, shared, or used, when populating the ADAA submission field, "design objective"
Later, if you are selected for semifinalist submission, you’ll need to:

  • Prepare relevant releases for any creative assets, such as music or a company logo, that you did not author yourself. Finalists will be required to submit all relevant releases for creative assets not developed by the entrant (music, for example).
  • Send your project in high-resolution digital files on a CD or DVD to Adobe competition headquarters. Include a color printout of four different screenshots or scenes from your game. 3D games such as board games should be sent in physical 3D form.
Installation Design
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include installation design, way finding systems, kiosks, exhibit design, environmental graphics, and retail interior designs that require some level of interactivity by users via stimulus of their senses. Entries must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.

Submit your project in one of the following ways:

  • PDF file with linked interactive elements
  • URL reference; the URL must remain constant and unchanged until December 1, 2012.
  • Illustrations, photos, demo .MOV, or an Illustrated mockup in a format compatible with Adobe® Flash® Player
  • Photos or Illustration mock-ups are a great way to show the judges the scale of your installation. Another way to demonstrate your installation is a URL or a demo video on VIMEO, if possible. VIMEO is a video sharing site. Be sure to provide jurors with the password so they are able to view your entry.

Innovation of Interactive Media in Education
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include browser and non-browser designs, application developments, mobile designs, game designs, and interactive designs. Entries might also include user interface design, eLearning projects, and the entry must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools. For more details regarding any of these types of design entries, read all of the Interactive Media category descriptions. This category is exclusive for faculty members who have created an innovative design with the purpose of teaching in any of these disciplines listed above.

Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include, but are not limited to, narrative character-based or experimental animations with any combination of computer-generated graphics, visual effects, or digital reproductions of drawn images. Entries must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools. Only the first five (5) minutes will be judged.

Submit your project in the following way:

This category is exclusive for faculty members who have created an innovative design with the purpose of teaching or illustrating creative possibilities in any of these disciplines listed above and engage in a compelling, complementary personal or professional practice.

Submit your project in the following way:

  • Entries must be uploaded to the competition website as a VIMEO video sharing website, with password provided, so that judges are able to view the work.
Later, if you are selected for semifinalist submission, you’ll need to:

  • Prepare relevant releases for any creative assets, such as music, that you did not author yourself. Finalists will be required to submit all relevant releases for creative assets not developed by the entrant (music, etc.) and a one-minute clip for viewing in QuickTime format at the awards event.
  • Send your project in high-resolution digital files on a CD or DVD to Adobe competition headquarters. Files should be either QuickTime or .MPEG4 format, and compatible with VIMEO

Traditional Media:

Illustration
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include editorial illustration that is used to convey information or clarify concepts; narrative illustration (including a series of up to ten illustrations for books); illustration for computer games; or technical, scientific, or architectural illustration. Entries must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.

Submit your project in the following way:

  • Entries must be uploaded to the competition website within one copy in PDF and from one to six images of the submitted piece in JPEG format with embedded color profiles.
If invited into the semifinal judging round, you’ll need to:

  • Submit your entry in printed format
  • Include accompanying original digital files on CD or DVD in Adobe software format.
Packaging
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include textile designs, examples or images of 3D products, apparel and accessories, packaging including layouts for product boxes, labels, bags, or on-shelf merchandising. Entries must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.

Submit your project in the following way:

  • Entries must be uploaded to the competition website as PDF files, with up to ten additional images of the submitted piece in JPEG format.
If invited into the semifinal judging round, you’ll need to:

  • Submit your physical 3D package or entry in printed format
  • Include accompanying original digital files on CD or DVD in Adobe software format.
Photography
Category description
Appropriate entries for this category include single pictures or a series of up to ten related images. images must be photographic in nature and then digitally enhanced or manipulated primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.
