The 2012 Adobe® Design Achievement Awards gives higher education students and faculty from around the world the shortcut to brilliance to propel their careers in the future. Cash prizes will be awarded in Los Angeles during the 2012 Adobe MAX conference. Submissions close June 22, 2012.

Participants may submit up to 3 times in 13 different categories and 3 faculty categories

Categories and Judging:

Innovation of Interactive Media in Education

Appropriate entries for this category include browser and non-browser designs, application developments, mobile designs, game designs, and interactive designs. Entries might also include user interface design, eLearning projects, and the entry must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools. For more details regarding any of these types of design entries, read all of the Interactive Media category descriptions. This category is exclusive for faculty members who have created an innovative design with the purpose of teaching in any of these disciplines listed above.

Innovation in Motion and Video in Education

Appropriate entries for this category include composited text, animated still images, live action, film trailers, titles, commercials, public service announcements, brand identity, short films or videos, documentaries, commercials, narrative character-based or experimental animations. The entry must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools. For more details regarding any of these types of design entries, read all of the Motion and Video category descriptions. This category is exclusive for faculty members who have created an innovative design with the purpose of teaching or illustrating creative possibilities in any of these disciplines listed above and engage in a compelling, complementary personal or professional practice.

Innovation in Traditional Media in Education

Appropriate entries for this category include advertising, branding and other promotional communications; books, brochures, catalogs, any 3D product packaging, editorial, and narrative illustrations. This category is exclusive for faculty members who have created a design with the purpose of teaching or illustrating creative possibilities in any of these disciplines listed above and engage in a compelling, complementary personal or professional practice. Entries must have been created primarily (over 50%) with Adobe tools.

Competition Rules

Timing:

Contest begins on November 28, 2011, and ends on June 22, 2012. All entries must be received by Adobe no later than 5 p.m. Pacific time on June 22, 2012. Adobe reserves the right to extend the competition deadline without formal notice, up to seven (7) calendar days, or as late as June 29, 2012.

Faculty (and teaching-staff) category submissions close on June 22, 2012. Semifinalists will be announced in July 2012

Prizes:

The top three finalists in each category (collectively, the “Finalists”) will be announced and prizes will be awarded at the Awards Event to be held in Los Angeles in October 2012 (the “Event”). Finalists, including individuals and only the team leader designated in the group entries, will receive a trip to Los Angeles, California, for participation in the Awards Event, including nonrefundable coach class round-trip airfare (if located outside the metropolitan Los Angeles area) and two nights’ accommodation in shared housing arrangements. All other trip expenses will be the responsibility of the Finalists. Those entries that are awarded an Honorable Mention in any given category are invited to attend the Event but will be responsible for their own transportation to the Event and accommodations. Of the top three Finalists in each category, only one Category Winner will be awarded. The remaining two will be awarded as Finalists. All individuals who choose to travel to the Awards Event, regardless of whether Sponsor has paid for their accommodations, shall be solely responsible for understanding which documents, such as visas and passports, are required for their travel, and for attaining and maintaining such documents at their own cost. Should any individual’s travel plans be hindered by a failure to receive or maintain such documents, the individual would be considered to have forfeited any and all winnings, and Sponsor shall not be responsible for replacing any travel accommodation of, awarding any prize(s) to, or otherwise compensating such individual through any alternative means.

Category Winners:

Individual faculty winners receive (1) one license of the Adobe® Creative Suite® 6 Master Collection (US$899 value) for their personal or campus use, in addition to US$3,000 to be used as an educational grant for the educational institution, a winner's certificate, and a 3D award. Group faculty winners receive US$3,000 in cash to be used as an educational grant for the educational institution, and one 3D award. Each faculty member gets his or her choice of the education version of either Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium (US$599 value), Production Premium (US$599 value), a winner's certificate; and an invitation to the awards event.

Finalists:

Individual faculty finalists receive (1) of their choice of the education versionsoftware of either Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium (US$599 value), Production Premium (US$599 value) for personal use. Group faculty finalist team members each receive (1) of their choice of the education version software of either Adobe Acrobat® X Professional [US$159], Adobe After Effects CS6 [US$349], Adobe Audition CS6 [US$149], Adobe Encore CS6 [US$149], Adobe Illustrator® CS6 [US$199], Adobe InDesign® CS6 [US$199], Adobe Photoshop® CS6 [US$299], Adobe Flash Pro CS6 [$149], Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 [US$349]); a certificate, and an invitation to the awards event.

Finalist Notification:

Entries will be judged from August 6-8, 2012. Finalists will be notified by courier, email, or telephone and will have ten (10) days from receipt of notification to acknowledge Finalist status and confirm attendance at the Event by U.S. mail, email, or courier. Finalists will be notified that they have been nominated for placement but will not know what their winning placement is until the actual Event. Sponsor is not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify winners. If a selected Finalist cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to acknowledge status, or fails to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules, a prize may be forfeited and an alternate Finalist may be selected. Finalists will be required to sign and return a liability release, declaration of eligibility, license agreement, and, where lawful, a publicity consent agreement, all within ten (10) days of receipt by winner as a condition of receiving a prize.
